ReplyDeleteYou got my attention immediately with Meyer Davis. The only reason I had heard of him was from a Billie Holliday story. She was in a New York hotel, heading home from a gig when she heard music from the Ballroom. She asked a hotel functionary who was playing and was informed in stuffy tones it was the Meyer Davis Society Orchestra. The speaker's tones must've been muddled. Billie was heard muttering, "That sure as hell ain't Miles Davis!"
